In 2010 four children left everything behind to settle down on a piece of waste land. In this former no man’s land they have constructed a circular wall, a gigantic, absurd “O” that exerts a strange attraction on the city and its inhabitants.

A complex network of movements connected to each other in time and space, Thomas Hauert’s choreographic language could be described as pursuing the tradition of abstract dance. Yet, its strongly polyphonic « writing » comes to life on stage entirely through improvisation. What makes his work singular, and significant, is that it aims at creating order out of disorder, form out of formlessness, a group out of individuals, while exploiting the exceptional quality of tension, attention and concentration allowed by improvisation.

De duivel beduveld (The devil bedeviled) is the Dutch remake of the homonymous French creation, Le diable abandonné, from Patrick Corillon and Dominique Roodthooft. Thomas Smetryns composed the music.
