A musical theatre production by Tom Jansen and Jan Kuijken.
An intimate theatrical account based on a text by Tom Jansen and on Winnie The Pooh.
Lying, or how falsehoods can be used to make life more pleasant and to skirt death, plays a central role. The creators of this piece take as their premise the idea that telling stories is far and away the best method of looking death unflinchingly in the eye. Stories as escape routes. In a naïve, light-hearted manner, they elaborate universal themes and expose "the unbearable lightness of being".
In short: a small performance in which four people are seeking out a conceit able to mitigate the truth of death.
A performance in which text, music and the visual arts can tell stories about life.
"Enjoying and grieving the certain death lying in wait for us are the same thing for me. When I look back at my life, I'm inclined to believe that I was fortunate to be able to relish even the unhappy moments" (Jacques Derrida)
