A magical-realistic & artificial world in motion

For the premiere of MANNAHATTA, theatre maker Renée Goethijn - together with stage designer Stefan Jakiela - transforms the stage into a magical-realistic and artificial natural scene. Three figures, for whom the natural world is only a vague memory, are at each other's mercy. How do they react when that bizarre landscape starts an absurd rebellion? 

MANNAHATTA is a performance that balances between theatre, performance and visual work, in which Renée Goethijn goes in search of the connections between climate, technology and paternalism. She places the actors in a simultaneously nostalgic, futuristic and utopian world, in which the boundaries between nature and technology are blurred. MANNAHATTA thus shows a landscape dancing on the ruins of the world as we know it. A landscape that might eventually swallow mankind whole.
