European Network of Opera Academies

Young artist don't have it easy today. That's why LOD thinks it's important to create space and resources for these young musicians.

LOD muziektheater is one of the founders and active members of enoa: European Network of Opera Academies. Together with eleven other European opera houses, LOD encourages young talent by offering them educational and exchange opportunities, and by co-producing new performances together. Since 2020, the network has paid special attention to diversity and inclusion. Every year, we organise a research and practical workshop within the framework of enoa and we give young artists the opportunity to receive further training in other European cities, under the wings of renowned names in the opera world. The network focuses on four pillars:

  • Workshops: all partners in the network organise international quality workshops related to making music theatre and opera. For example, LOD organised a workshop on documentary music theatre, led by Stefan Bläske, in 2019. All partners 'send' talented artists to workshops of the other enoa partners. In 2023, this workshop will be led by Stacy Hardy, on the theme of 'new narratives'.
  • Labs: are set up to enable research during creation. LOD was a guest in Aix-en-Provence, in Aldeburgh and in Lisbon.
  • Residencies: twelve artists were selected, each of them supported by a partner organisation. LOD currently supports two artists: Mikhail Karikis and Caitlin Smith.
  • Co-production: enoa selected eight music theatre projects for co-production. The Golden Stool by Gorges Ocloo was selected for this.
